QR code innovation will pave way for blockchain adoption in marketing

With Amazon, Google and Instagram embracing QR codes once again, new technology from Enjin that enables instant delivery of tradeable blockchain items could drive mass user adoption

Singapore – 30th November 2018 – As QR codes re-emerge as a popular tool for the world’s biggest brands, gaming blockchain company Enjin has released a powerful wallet update, called ‘Enjin Beam’, which allows users to scan a QR code and receive digital assets.

This could solve a major problem for brands seeking innovative ways to increase customer engagement and lifetime customer value. Enjin anticipates the technology will have a major impact on a range of retail, advertising and technology companies as they will use it to reward users with discount coupons, unique collectible items, tokenized prizes and other rewards.

QR codes and collectibles

In addition to the recent QR code trend, the huge success of Pokémon Go has proven that consumers love collectibles. If issued today, the digital assets in Pokémon Go could exist in Enjin’s integrated solution, as well as being exported, traded, loaned, sold and much more.

Retailers can now emulate the success of the Pokémon franchise by using gamification to enhance customer engagement. Scannable QR code integration delivers rare collectibles, bonuses and incentives that can be traded, and most importantly, engage consumers. Discount tokens can be transferred to retail customers face-to-face or through websites, and rewards can be given to audiences, customers and employees—all via the quick scan of a QR code.

“We’re very excited about the latest QR code feature, as it will bring a new level of accessibility to blockchain items,” said Enjin CEO Maxim Blagov. “Enjin Beam will reduce existing barriers to blockchain technology, enabling any company, association or group to create QR codes and offer blockchain items, such as collectibles and discount vouchers, to their users. This universal feature will boost mass adoption of blockchain technology.”

Enjin envisions their platform being used in real-world promotions by retailers, in which customers would scan QR codes and receive tradable blockchain assets. By tracking assets from creation throughout their life, the technology could also have applications in other sectors like media, for tracking access to a licensed piece of content such as a movie or song, or manufacturing, for tracking of real-world parts and products.

User cases

Some clear use cases for the technology have already emerged. Bronze Bond Studios, an online art retailer, and fashion houses O’Kill and Swagpie Apparel are creating blockchain-based certificates of authenticity and utilising QR codes for easier delivery of the tokens to customers.

In the case of Swagpie Apparel, a QR code allows users to scan and receive their certificate of authenticity in-store. Both Bronze Bond Studios and O’Kill are sending QR codes along with confirmation emails, enabling customers anywhere in the world to scan the code and receive their certificate.

The re-emergence of QR codes as a technology to watch was demonstrated by recent figures from Chinese technology giant TenCent, which showed that its QR code payment service for public transportation has reached more than 50 million users. QR codes are also being used with great success in the massive Chinese e-commerce market, whose size and significance was reiterated by the success of Alibaba’s recent record breaking 10th anniversary.

Enjin Beam will allow users to redeem digital assets directly into their Enjin Smart Wallet by scanning a QR code created by Enjin. Items distributed via the QR airdrop system can be set as either fixed or random, which determines the method of distribution. For both, the QR code creator will need to identify item types, a blockchain address from which the items will be distributed and the number of times the QR code can be redeemed per wallet.

The QR code can be placed literally anywhere—for example, in emails, social media posts and videos, as well as through real-life locations in the form of stickers, posters and any visually accessible medium. To see the endless possibilities – https://spark.adobe.com/page/o7UJtXrknXN0B/

The system will support both ERC1155 and ERC20 tokens. Those who wish to trial this system can contact Enjin. Users can also create their own ERC-1155 blockchain items by visiting the Enjin Mintshop at mint.enjincoin.io.
