The event will feature a rematch between former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones against light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson. The fight is due to take place this Saturday (December 29) at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
With UFC events like these receiving millions of viewers, having the Litecoin logo displayed on the Octagon’s canvas gives LTC global awareness that they hope to spark interest and drive engagement with people who may not have heard of Litecoin or cryptocurrency before.
Community-driven parallels
In a blog post, the Litecoin foundation outlined how UFC has evolved over the last 25 years, from a tiny grassroots movement to a global phenomenon – largely based on its extremely passionate community.
The foundation saw many parallels with its own community, which has also been instrumental in its own growth by “providing unwavering passion and enthusiasm” to propel the LTC project forward.
Moving towards the mainstream
This sponsorship will also be a milestone for Litecoin and cryptocurrency in general. They went on to say that “with brands and institutions continuing to push into cryptocurrency and blockchain, this is yet another signal of this technology moving closer towards the mainstream.”
“We view this sponsorship as the first step to what will hopefully be a long and fruitful relationship with UFC.”
