Amazon customers ‘want to buy crypto’ on shopping site

Online shoppers want to buy cryptocurrencies on e-commerce site Amazon, according to research.

An Investing.com survey of 1,000 customers found 13% wanted to buy the likes of Bitcoin from the world’s second-largest retailer.

The report states: “Compared to a new Amazon-branded computer (73%) or local coupons and deals (52%), which a majority of shoppers were comfortable buying from the Amazon brand, other offerings including health care coverage (15%), public transportation (13%), and cryptocurrencies (13%) could make shoppers more hesitant.

“While many were less confident about buying medical marijuana (13.5%) or prescription drugs (9.3%) through Amazon, respondents anticipated Amazon would eventually provide those services.”

An Amazon cryptocurrency?

Earlier this month, Binance’s Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao said Amazon will launch its own cryptocurrency soon.

He tweeted: “For any internet (non-physical) based business, I don’t understand why anyone would not accept crypto for payments.

“It is easier, faster, and cheaper to integrate than traditional payment gateways.

“Less paperwork. And reaches more diverse demographic and geography.”

He added: “Amazon will have to issue a currency sooner or later.”

Last month, it emerged that a new browser extension called ‘Moon’ will allow shoppers to pay for products on Amazon using cryptocurrencies.

A tweet from @Bitcoin revealed that customers can now pay with Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash on Amazon. The Moon browser extension is developed by Moon Technologies and is in its beta phase.

To use the extension, users must first download it and make an account. Users must then connect their Coinbase account, which will allow them to make purchases directly using their Coinbase wallet.
