Animoca Brands to release official Addams Family mobile game

Pixowl, a video game publisher owned by Animoca Brands, will be releasing an official Addams Family mobile game by the end of this quarter

Pixowl – a video game publisher owned by Animoca Brands – will be releasing an official Addams Family mobile game this quarter after signing a non-exclusive licencing deal with MGM Interactive.

Both Pixowl and Animoca Brands are game development studios which use blockchain technology to enhance their games. Pixowl was recently acquired by Animoca Brands and is a subsidiary of the company.

Notable blockchain-based titles to emerge from these companies include ‘The Sandbox’ (Pixowl) and ‘F1 Delta Time’ (Animoca Brands).

Coin Rivet first learned about The Addams Family mobile game during an interview with Pixowl co-founder and COO Sébastien Borget in May.

The company has now sent out an official press release which states The Addams Family mobile game is set to launch for Android and iOS users by the end of this quarter.

The game will be based on the upcoming and hotly-anticipated animated movie of the same name, which will be released globally on October 11 2019. The Addams Family is based on a series of cartoons drawn by the comic creator Charles Addams and first published in 1938.

The agreement with MGM Interactive grants Pixowl a non-exclusive licence to use the property and assets of The Addams Family to develop, distribute, and monetise The Addams Family Mystery Mansion mobile game for a term lasting through December 31 2024.

The game will be free to play with optional in-app purchases. MGM will receive a portion of the revenues generated by the game as a royalty.

At present, it does not look like blockchain will be featured in the game. However, the deal should help the blockchain gaming industry to grow as players of the game could be exposed to blockchain gaming through exploring additional titles made by Pixowl and Animoca Brands.
