Artwork tribute to Bitcoin legend Hal Finney is up for auction

The commemoratory piece of artwork has been created from credit cards, a Bitcoin node, and a used safety deposit box

The artist Cryptograffiti has created a piece of artwork celebrating the contributions of Bitcoin legend Hal Finney.

Specifically, Cryptograffiti said that his “latest work commemorates the 10th anniversary of cryptographer Hal Finney’s involvement in Bitcoin.”

It was 10 years ago this week that Hal Finney sent out his now famous tweet that he was “running bitcoin”.

The artwork comprises of old credit cards that sit on top of a used bank safety deposit box. Inside the box is a customised Casa node allowing you to ‘run bitcoin’.

Also embedded in the piece is a signed card by Hal (given to Cryptograffiti by Hal’s wife Fran).

The WiFi-enabled Casa node is designed to only run when paired with the artwork.

Up for auction

The artwork is now up for auction on bitify.com. 50% of the proceeds will go to the ALS Association Golden West Chapter, who supported Hal during his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

The auction will last for the next 24 days and the current bid for the artwork stands at just over $30,000.

On top of this, 100 limited edition signed and numbered prints are available to purchase for $250 each.

In a final message from Cryptograffiti, he stated: “A heartfelt thank you to the Casa Inc. team for collaborating, to Fran, and of course to Hal for his important contributions in a space that means so much to so many of us. RIP.”
