Bitcoin boils over as Microsoft acquires GitHub

Bitcoin core developers reacted angrily to the news. GitHub is a large code repository that has become very popular among developers and companies hosting entire projects, documentation and code. Apple, Amazon, Google, are among the many big technology firms that are currently using it.

When asked on Twitter whether developers should abandon GitHub permanently, Bitcoin core expert Wladimir J. van der Laan responded: “Yes. No real hurry, but I expect this is the beginning of a long painful road of (GitHub) toward obsolence, possibly ending the same way as Codeplex did.”

Microsoft currently has more than 1,000 developers actively pushing code to GitHub repositories. “We will accelerate enterprise developers’ use of GitHub, with our direct sales and partner channels and access to Microsoft’s global cloud infrastructure and services,” says Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella. “When it comes to our commitment to open source, judge us by the actions we have taken in the recent past, our actions today, and in the future.”
