Anthony Pompliano, co-founder of Morgan Creek Digital Assets, this week spoke at a crypto-related event for family offices (aka hugely wealthy investors).
Also in attendance was Gene Simmons, the co-founder and frontman of 70s rock band Kiss, with Pompliano taking to Twitter to announce that the two bumped into each other at an after party.
This wasn’t Simmons’ first ride on the Bitcoin merry-go-round. A couple of years ago, he told TheStreet: “I am interested in Bitcoin, but only as a piece of the [investment] puzzle,” adding that he preferred to be diversified with his investments.
He also floated the idea of a Kiss Coin, although we have sadly yet to see that come to fruition.
It’s perhaps unsurprising that Simmons is drawn to the decentralised world of Bitcoin. “Everywhere around the world we try to tell people there are no borders, no prime ministers, no presidents; there’s only one nation, Kiss Nation. There’s only one rock and roll national anthem – Rock N Roll All Night, Party Every Day,” he once said in an interview.
Another major celeb interested in the crypto space is tennis player Serena Williams. It recently emerged that she is an investor in Coinbase.
In a recent Instagram post, she revealed that in 2014 she launched Serena Ventures with the mission of “giving opportunities to founders across an array of industries”.
“Serena Ventures invests in companies that embrace diverse leadership, individual empowerment, creativity and opportunity. We have so many exciting things coming up!” Williams added.
The market cap of the venture’s portfolio is over $12 billion and it consists of 30+ companies. No details on how much has been invested in Coinbase or the round(s) involved.
Those who enter the market at this time may be surprised to hear that Bitcoin…
