Japan-based cryptocurrency exchange BitFlyer will be sponsors for a J1 League football match between Sagan Tosu and Vissel Kobe today.
The match will mark the retirement of Spanish footballing legend Fernando Torres, who scored 262 goals in 766 appearances across an illustrious career.
Aside from sponsoring the match itself, BitFlyer will be sponsoring Torres’ retirement event on Saturday, which is being called “About Our Future”.
Torres is one of Spain’s most successful players of all time having won one World Cup, two European Championships, one Champions League, and two Europa League trophies.
Following a move back to his boyhood club Atletico Madrid in 2014, Torres moved to the J1 League to join up with BitFlyer-partnered Sagan Tosu.
BitFlyer is an industry-leading exchange in Japan, boasting stringent levels of regulatory compliance and an average daily trade volume of around $45 million.
It currently offers three trading pairs, with Bitcoin being made available against the Japanese yen and US dollar, while users can also trade Ethereum against its Bitcoin pair.
BitFlyer also expanded to the United States this year, recently announcing that its Ethereum markets are open to customers in 46 states.
