A blockchain-based football collectibles app has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the project.
Football Universe is a football manager simulator where users can store football players on the blockchain.
Users will have the ability to purchase players using cryptocurrency via a web application. They will then be able to engage with other users in a simulated game using their respective squads.
According to the Kickstarter page, Football Universe is inspired by the FIFA game series and will give users similar functionality in the sense they can create and manage their own squads – reminiscent of the FIFA Ultimate Team game mode.
It also stipulates that through the underlying blockchain technology, users’ players will not decrease in value because it is never reset – unlike FIFA where users need to craft a new Ultimate Team with each new release.
On the Football Universe website, there will be a list of transferable players from other users as well as newly generated players from the game development team.
The amount of players generated on a procedural basis will depend on a formula that relates to the number of digital players without a team to the active number of users.
Available match types will include friendlies, qualifying leagues, and custom-built tournaments.
Users will also have the ability to assign a formation as well as deliver instructions to the team.
Football Universe will be using the Ethereum platform and has raised £893 of its £25,990 goal at the time of writing.
The project will only be funded if its entire goal is reached before May 15, 2019.
