Prominent early Bitcoin contributor and Bloq CEO Jeff Garzik has been served a subpoena by a court in Florida over Craig Wright’s claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin.
The subpoena states that Garzik must provide supporting evidence that demonstrates his “personal theory” that the now deceased Dave Kleiman is Satoshi Nakamoto.
“My personal theory is that it’s Floridian Dave Kleiman. It matches his coding style. This gentleman was self-taught. And the Bitcoin coder was someone who was very, very smart, but not a classically trained software engineer,” he told Bloomberg.
Kleiman’s brother, Ian, sued Craig Wright last year with allegations that Wright misappropriated billions of dollars worth of Bitcoin from his brother’s estate by claiming that he was the creator of Bitcoin.
The allegations claim that Wright made attempts to “seize Dave’s Bitcoins and his rights to certain intellectual property [IP] associated with the Bitcoin technology,” with the suit seeking the return of 1.1 million Bitcoins worth more than $4 billion.
Craig Wright has vehemently denied the allegations, going so far as to file a motion to dismiss the case last April.
Garzik, who was the leader of the failed Segwit2X hard fork movement in 2017, has 30 days to respond to the subpoena, with evidence being required in relation to Craig Wright as well as Mt Gox and the Silk Road.
