Civic has teamed with the world’s biggest brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev, to test out a blockchain-enabled beer vending machine.
Using the former’s app to verify the purchaser is over the 21-year-old legal drinking age, the blockchain beer vending machine was piloted at the Consensus 2018 conference, which took place in New York last week.
The Civic app enabled attendees to verify their identity using a document that contained their date of birth, via the Civic Identity Verification Marketplace. The app then interacted with a QR code on the vending machine and dispensed a free 12oz can of Bud. The trial represents the first zero-knowledge proof age verification demonstrated in a real world use case, according to Civic.
