Twitter is reportedly working on implementing Ethereum payments to its platform following yesterday’s surprise resignation of CEO Jack Dorsey.
A video on the social media platform appears to show the addition of an option to send a tip to an Ethereum address. The introduction of Ethereum payments follows the app’s implementation of Bitcoin ‘Tips‘ earlier in the year, which is being beta tested by a select number of users.
The addition of Ethereum comes after Jack Dorsey announced his resignation on Twitter.
Many in the community have commented on the timing of the reveal, suggesting that it was coincidental as it was announced hours after Dorsey’s departure.
Dorsey will be replaced by CTO Parag Agrawal, who earlier in the month said he was “super excited to welcome @_tessr to lead our Crypto engineering team“.
The team is being built with a focus on developing and implementing crypto and blockchain technologies to the social media platform. Twitter is also continuing work on its much-anticipated ‘NFT verification’ feature, which will allow users to ‘authenticate’ their NFTs on Twitter following the trend of adopting an NFT as a profile picture.
ENS domain names have also become the latest status symbol on Twitter, with the official Budweiser account officially adopting the ‘beer.eth‘ domain name as its display name.
The official account commented ‘Looks rare’ on a Budweiser can NFT created by ‘@supergremplin‘, the creator of the popular NFT project ‘CrypToadz‘ – a signal that the brand is keen to engage and interact with the wider NFT community.
