There is considerable hype about blockchain in almost every industry including finance and significant investments globally. We explore the effects of blockchain applications in corporate governance and accounting. Would such use be efficient? Would the financial services industry be fundamentally changed by this technology? This study evaluates blockchain technology, investment in blockchain, applications, impact on stakeholders. Provides a behavioral, legal, ethical and developer’s perspective of blockchain technology adoption in accounting and corporate governance. Moreover, we compile a unique database of blockchaininvestments and conduct an empirical analysis of investments in blockchains and related start-ups. Finally, we discuss future research on blockchain for wider adoptions in financial markets.
