Earn while you learn: Coinbase launches new learning platform

Coinbase has unveiled their plans to launch a new learning platform, called Coinbase Earn, aimed at helping to teach people about cryptocurrency whilst letting them earn some crypto at the same time.

The blog post featured a video in which Balaji Srinivasan, CTO of Coinbase, introduces the idea, stating: “Coinbase’s mission is to create an open financial system, where anyone in the world can participate on equal terms from their computer or smartphone. To bring this vision about, we’ll need to make blockchain technology more accessible, both in the sense of making cryptocurrencies easier to obtain and easier to understand.”

Srinivasan was formerly the CEO at Earn.com, which was acquired by Coinbase earlier this year. The same blog that announced the acquisition wrote, “Balaji has become one of the most respected technologists in the crypto field and is considered one of the technology industry’s few true originalists.”

The new educational platform is designed to promote awareness about the world of cryptocurrency. Coinbase have incentivised people to test this new platform by offering a digital asset as a reward for completing tasks. Currently, the asset being offered to users is ZRX, a token from the Hydro Foundation.

However, Tian Li, CEO of the Hydro Foundation, recently made clear their plans to fork the 0x protocol, which will make the ZRX token defunct in the near future. This begs the question of how soon will it be before Coinbase Earn release new tokens on the platform.

In the announcement video, Balaji Srinivasan makes clear the focus behind the initiative, stating: “We think earning and learning go hand in hand, because we think the best way to learn about something is to actually use it and engage with it.”

Coinbase Earn will show educational videos on the coinbase.com/earn/0x site. Once users have watched a video, they will then be given tasks to complete. Upon completion, the users will be rewarded with ZRX tokens. With this, Coinbase hope that users will gain a better understanding of digital assets and their utility in the world of cryptocurrency.

Currently, Coinbase Earn is not open to the general public and is invite-only. Coinbase’s announcement states: “If you’ve received an invite to Coinbase Earn by email, you can go to the Coinbase Earn ZRX page to earn small amounts of cryptocurrency by completing educational tasks like short video lessons and quizzes.”

If you haven’t received an invite, you are still able to go to the site and watch the educational videos freely.
