Hungarian sculptors Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly have unveiled a statue of Satoshi Nakamoto – the mysterious creator of Bitcoin.
The bronze bust depicts a cloaked Satoshi with a shiny golden face intended to reflect the observer as a way of showing the founder of the decentralised finance revolution could be any one of us.
The artists behind the ‘StatueofSatoshi‘ project (which now stands in the Graphisoft Park on the banks of the Danube) explained the philosophy guiding their art.
“Our goal is to create a proper memorial for Satoshi, whoever he or she was, wherever he or she is right now,” they said.
“The underlying technology, that Satoshi Nakamoto introduced to the world can truly make our life better. Transparency, fairness, several others values in numerous fields, this is what blockchain truly means.
“Satoshi has a very important legacy.”
It seems the statue has been quite a hit, with massive crowds in attendance to watch the artists unveil the piece.
The result of months of work, the bronze bust has been a community-funded effort with the artists only accepting cryptocurrency donations.
