New York mayor-elect Eric Adams wants crypto taught in schools

Eric Adams, the incoming mayor of New York, believes cryptocurrency should enter the school curriculum.

The 61-year-old Democrat has long championed cryptocurrency as the way of the future during his campaign and has doubled down on its importance in the United States with his suggestion that schoolchildren must learn about the industry.

Like his Democrat rival Andrew Yang, Adams promised to make New York a hub for the crypto industry, and according to Adams, that begins with the systematic teaching of the industry.

In an interview with CNN’s State of the Union, Adams said students must be prepared for the ‘new way of thinking’ that comes with the increased influence and usage of cryptocurrency.

“We must open our schools to teach the technology, to teach this new way of thinking,” he said.

“It’s a new way of paying for goods and services throughout the entire globe.”

Adams also revealed he will take his first three paychecks as mayor in Bitcoin when he is inaugurated on January 1, 2022, following in the footsteps of Miami mayor Francis Suarez.

Should Adams get his wish of students in New York being taught about cryptocurrency, the Big Apple wouldn’t be the first state to implement that, as students in Georgia are set to learn about the industry, after a financial literacy program was approved by the Georgia House of Representatives.
