Cryptocurrency trading platform TradingView has launched a Bitcoin timeline that details major events over its illustrious 12-year history.
The infographic begins on January 3, 2009, which coincides with the mining of the genesis block before it leads on to the first ever exchange rate in October, 2009.
It goes on to document Bitcoin’s eventual proliferation in the mainstream, with an article in Time being published on April, 2011 discussing cryptocurrency’s potential impact on governments.
As time has gone on, Bitcoin has grown in popularity and most importantly price, with Bitcoin now being worth more than $31,500 at the time of writing.
There has, however, been bumps in the road including the infamous MT Gox hack and the shutdown of the Silk Road, which saw momentary lapses in the price of Bitcoin, but to its credit it has always recovered with aplomb.
Bitcoin is now in a situation where institutional investment from the likes of Grayscale, MicroStrategy and Square is at an all-time high, while interest from the retail market has increased significantly over the past 12-months.
If it can start to build a solid base above $20,000 in 2021, Hal Finney’s vision of Bitcoin being a challenger to the world reserve currency certainly becomes more likely.
