Galfond claws back gruelling loss in Venividi heads up poker battle

Professional poker player Phil Galfond has managed to recover from a €900,000 losing run in a heads up battle against online regular Venividi.

Coin Rivet reported on Galfond’s downswing in February, with a series of tweets detailing how the 35-year-old was “taking a step back” from poker to clear his head.

And it seems as though taking some time away from the felt clearly worked well, as Galfond won €106,328 back from Venividi yesterday forcing the latter to end the session early.

Galfond is still at a loss after more than four weeks of the challenge, although it stands at only €154,287, a far cry from when he was almost seven-figures in the red.

Fellow professional poker player and YouTube star Joey Ingram reviewed yesterday’s session, stating that Venividi is “fading fast” and that his “confidence has to be shot”.

The heads up PLO challenge has now been ongoing for the past 31 days with the pair battling it out over 19,363 hands.

Several professionals heaped criticism on Galfond after his display in the first few sessions, with Luke “full flush” Schwartz  claiming that Galfond is a “spent force” and that his supporters are stuck living in the Full Tilt days.

However, Schwartz has now made a sensational u-turn following Galfond’s recent recovery, replying ironically to a tweet by writing: “He’s one of the best poker players of all time and has a heart of a lion.”
