Top apps to download when self-isolating from coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic is developing at an alarming rate with companies being forced to send employees home to ‘self-isolate’ to stem the flow of the virus.

As traditional workforces begin to adapt to the complexity and challenges of working from home, here is a list of the top apps to download when self-isolating.

Work-related apps

Slack and Zoom remain two key applications for people who are working from home. Slack enables workers to communicate in groups or to individuals, with functions such as video calls, screen sharing and document transfers.

Zoom is marketed as a ‘Skype for business’ with users being able to conduct and schedule conference calls between anyone across the globe.

Another handy tool is Dropbox as it allows workers to upload and transfer files that are too large to be sent via email.

Apps for enjoyment

The wave of self-isolating work forces is expected to cause a rise in subscriptions for streaming services like Netflix, Spotify, YouTube and Amazon Prime.

With the majority of social media and mainstream news sites focusing on the potential negative impacts of coronavirus, it’s important for people to switch off occasionally.

And what better way to do so than by binge watching a selection of TV shows and movies, although it’s probably best to stay away from zombie apocalypse shows like Walking Dead in light of the ongoing situation.

Poker and gaming

If you’re the type of person that doesn’t enjoy passive activities like watching films and TV shows, then doing something competitive like poker or gaming could be an ideal choice.

The online poker industry is expecting another hype-driven boom this year with several live events being cancelled, which is thought to soften the field as it did more than a decade ago.

A wide variety of poker tournaments have filled the online schedule over the coming months with Pokerstars running its 14-year anniversary Sunday Million on March 22.

partypoker has also got the Powerfest running at the moment with more than $20 million in guarantees being offered over the next two weeks.

Video games provide a suitable alternative to those who don’t want to buy into tournaments, with sales currently being offered on both the Playstation Store and the Microsoft Store.
