Peer-to-peer Bitcoin marketplace Paxful will soon set about building its third school in Africa.
As part of the company’s #BuiltwithBitcoin initiative, Paxful is aiming to build 100 schools in Africa to help foster education in developing countries across the continent.
The third school to be #BuiltwithBitcoin is part of a movement to create 100 education centres in emerging countries in Africa. Kicking off with a $30,000 donation from Paxful, the school will be for children between the ages of three and six.
It will provide quality education to children in Machakos County, Kenya and also be equipped with a state-of-the-art water well system.
Paxful began the #BuiltwithBitcoin initiative along with its partner Zam Zam Water in 2017 to promote a spirit of charity and philanthropy in the cryptocurrency industry.
For its part, Zam Zam Water provides clean, sustainable water and access to education in rural villages around the globe.
Together, they built the first school in December 2017 in Rwanda and the second in 2018, also in Rwanda.
The #BuiltwithBitcoin initiative now supports more than 400 students. However, the goal is to create 100 schools providing education to some 15,000 young people in Africa and employment to almost 300 teachers.
“As cryptocurrency advances the financial freedoms of Africans and provides new and innovative ways for millions in the country to conduct business, we at Paxful wanted to take on a larger role to help them break free of the shackles of an unjust financial system,” COO and co-founder of Paxful Artur Schaback commented.
“From helping Nigerians start a financial ecosystem with gift cards, to making remittance easy in Kenya, with our 100-school initiative #BuiltwithBitcoin, we plan to continue to empower the African people to take control of their financial independence.”
Yusuf Nessary, founder of Zam Zam Water, said, “Zam Zam strives to create positive social change by empowering men, women, and children through education and opportunity.
“We are beyond excited and grateful for the opportunity to bring the third school that is #BuiltwithBitcoin to the people of Africa, and look forward to providing them 97 more.”
Paxful has made a $30,000 donation for the construction of the third school. But, in addition to this, the peer-to-peer BTC trading marketplace is now calling on the greater crypto community to take action and become part of its 100-school plan.
Anyone interested in helping out can donate BTC that will go towards building classrooms, powering the kitchen, a solar power system, and other parts of the facility.
“The benefits of cryptocurrency are often shadowed by clouds of negativity and speculation,” said Ray Youssef, CEO and co-founder of Paxful.
“At Paxful, it’s our mission to change this image and showcase all the good that can be done if we work together, beginning with the youth in the communities and building on this initiative in the near future. We are calling on the industry to help us!”
