Joe Montana, the legendary National Football League (NFL) quarterback and venture capitalist, has joined the Fan Controlled Football League (FCFL) as an investor and Chief Strategic Advisor.
FCFL is a blockchain-based professional football league which lets fans determine play calls, team branding, coaches and player drafts. It is designed to make fans the coach and general manager for their team.
Montana, an angel investor and founder of venture capital firm Liquid 2 Ventures, played in the NFL for 16 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs.
As FCFL’s Chief Strategic Advisor, he will help to drive the formation and development of the league’s brand messaging and provide expertise on front office operations through to fan engagement.
“I’m tremendously excited to be partnering with the FCFL,” says Montana. “What this team has created is innovative, engaging, and will energise the digital age football fan. Fans will hire the coaches, draft the players and call all the plays in real-time. It’s a real-life video game and the future of sports.”
The FCFL will soon announce fan captains for each of the inaugural eight teams, the initiation of fan voting on team names, logos and league rules, and a number of other strategic alliances. The FCFL season will officially kick off in May 2019.
“As we continue to build and launch the sports platform for the digital fan, we will look to Joe for leadership and expertise in every facet of the league,” says Sohrob Farudi, FCFL’s CEO and Co-Founder.
