Klaytn, Sliver.tv, and Theta to launch Sliver.tv Korea mobile app

South Korean blockchain platform Klaytn has partnered with Sliver.tv and Theta Labs to launch the Sliver.tv Korea mobile esports platform.

Both Sliver.tv and Theta Labs see fundamental problems in today’s content delivery networks (CDNs), and as such have devised their own model for streaming which centres on tokenised bandwidth sharing.

The companies have now developed Sliver.tv Korea – a mobile esports app powered by the Theta video delivery network – with the aim of tapping into the huge mobile gaming and esports market in South Korea. The companies will now join up with the Klaytn blockchain platform as an initial launch partner, according to a Medium blog post post by Theta Labs.

The announcement reads: “Sliver.tv Korea will be the world’s first end-to-end mobile esports experience, powered by the Theta blockchain and the new native Klaytn token.

“Users will be able to share their excess bandwidth to relay Sliver.tv Korea video streams over the Theta Network, earning Theta Fuel (TFUEL) tokens in the process.”

At the same time, users will be able to earn app-level Klaytn blockchain tokens as a bonus for participating in chat, donating virtual items, and various other engagement actions.

The launch of Sliver.tv Korea is expected to expand Theta Network’s reach in the Korean market, building on current partnerships formed with Samsung VR, MBN, CJ Hello, Pandora.tv, and KAIST University.

Mitch Liu, CEO of Sliver.tv and Theta Labs, has stated in the announcement: “Sliver.tv is positioned to take advantage of the cutting-edge innovation happening in Korea, from pioneering mobile gaming to its embrace of blockchain technology and early market leadership and adoption of 5G wireless.

“The convergence of these trends presents a unique opportunity to build the first ever mobile-to-mobile esports platform powered by blockchain rewards from the Theta and Klaytn native chains.”
