Lightning apps (Lapps) are now even easier to try out

BlueWallet will soon introduce an integrated “Lapp browser” to its mobile iOS and Android apps.

Available to beta users

Last week, the BlueWallet team showcased a 25-second clip of the latest version of the BlueWallet app (only available to their beta testers) on Twitter.

The clip shows that you can now directly access a marketplace from inside one of the Lightning wallets in the app (you can generate multiple Lightning and BTC wallets in-app).

From the marketplace, users get taken directly to a Lapp browser, where you can access a wide range of Lightning-enabled services including merchants (like the Blockstream store), services (like Bitrefill to pay bills and buy vouchers), and of course an array of different gambling games.

Using the Tippin.me service

In the demo, the tippin.me service was shown. The user created and sent a 1,000 Satoshi payment to the service. I assume that as part of the update, users will also be able to create and receive Lightning payments through the wallet. At the moment, I think Lightning invoices will still be required, though.

The new feature being developed by the CTO of Lightning Labs (roasbeef) will remove the need to create a payment invoice for each transaction. This should allow more “spontaneous” activity and sidelines a major technical element that could be potentially off-putting for novices.

He’s a fan of open-blockchains because “it enables self-sovereignty”.
