Mums have crypto investment feelings too, eToro research

42% of mums are currently invested in or would consider crypto investments, according to research by eToro and Mumsnet involving 1,000 women. The top cryptoassets for female investors are XRP, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Stellar.

47% of respondents know a little or a lot about investing, whilst 55% want to take control of their finances and invest on behalf of themselves. The biggest drivers for mums looking at this space are to generate a long-term return (73%) and to save for their children’s future (71%).

Four in five are familiar with the term cryptocurrency and 42% are currently invested or would consider investing in cryptoassets. A tenth would be interested in doing so as a long-term investment on behalf of their children.

“This research suggests that in many cases women want to invest but don’t know where to start. This no longer needs to be the case. Technology has transformed the investment world from a small, opaque club into a community that anyone can tap into. This should be to the benefit of prospective female investors,” says Iqbal V. Gandham, UK Managing Director at eToro.

“While we’ve seen high engagement with and interest in cryptoassets from female traders on our platform, it’s fair to say that the majority of investors on eToro are currently male. In this new world of investing we’re focused on opening up investment to all by offering easy access to assets and education on investments. There are a number of self-taught female investors on our platform generating good returns and gaining a following of other investors. We want more females to feel empowered to start investing.”

Lena Birse, stay at home mum and a ‘Popular Investor’ on the eToro platform, comments: “I started investing online a number of years ago and have since built up a following of over 1,000 investors through the eToro platform. I am an oddball to many of my friends – none of them trade. Instead my friends’ fathers and husbands manage their money. I think we should all be in control of and understand our money. As a stay at home mum I’m able to research the market and create a good work, life balance to suit my lifestyle.”
