A doctor based in Detroit, Michigan has recently opened his own medical practice – and he accepts payment in Bitcoin.
Dr Will Powers took to Reddit last week to announce the opening of his new video game-themed practice. He specialises in family medicine, HIV treatment, and hormonal therapy.
The image accompanying a recent post by Dr Powers displays a sign in his practice that states ‘Bitcoin accepted here’.
Dr Powers notes: “The entire office is themed around video games and we accept Bitcoin here via BitPay as well as directly.”
However, he has stipulated that he is currently attempting to solve a legal issue with his lawyer regarding accepting and holding Bitcoin.
“Speculating on it makes the tax situation a lot more difficult than simply accepting it via BitPay,” he adds.
Dr Powers also left a comment on the post saying he has been mining Bitcoin to heat his house in Michigan since 2012.
It is positive to see local businesses and practices begin accepting cryptocurrency payments, as it brings the world one step closer to mainstream adoption of crypto.
Coin Rivet also recently reported on another local business accepting Bitcoin payments. Cryptocurrency enthusiast and Colorado-based cannabis dispensary owner Brooke Mallers facilitated her store’s first Bitcoin-to-cannabis transaction last month.
