New Xbox ‘Project Scarlett’ revealed at E3

The next generation of console gaming is set to begin in 2020 after Microsoft announced the latest version of the Xbox, dubbed ‘Project Scarlett’, will launch at the end of next year.

The news of the new console’s release was announced during E3 – one of the world’s largest annual video game conferences.

The new Xbox, currently under the working name of ‘Project Scarlett’, is set for release at the end of 2020, giving players roughly 18 months left of the current generation.

To add to fans’ joy, the latest game in the Halo series has also been announced – called ‘Halo: Infinite’ – which is set to be released alongside the new console.

Project Scarlett will reportedly boast far superior specifications than the current generation of hardware in the Xbox One.

According to the announcement trailer, it is believed to reach up to 120 frames per second (fps) compared to the Xbox One, which can only reach a maximum of 60 fps.

It will also be 8K compatible for those who want to see the latest releases in all their graphical glory. The next gen solid-state drive (SSD) is also reportedly 40 times faster compared to its current gen counterpart.

Project Scarlett will be built around AMD’s latest Zen 2 processing unit, which is stipulated to be four times more powerful than the central processing unit (CPU) currently used in the Xbox One.

The Xbox One was released back in November 2013 – roughly the same time as the PlayStation 4 – and if this trend is to be repeated, it should not be long before the next generation of console hardware from Sony and PlayStation will be unveiled.
