Ethereum is an open-source software platform based on blockchain technology. It grants developers the opportunity to build and distribute decentralised applications. Released in 2015, Ethereum has cemented itself as the second largest cryptocurrency. Spearheaded by Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum has created an ecosystem of cryptocurrencies built on top of the Ethereum network. Many of the top cryptocurrencies are built on top of the Ethereum protocol with a variety of different aims with varying degrees of success. The majority of DeFi, NFT and stablecoins industry rely on Ethereum.
