This paper discusses the determinants of a Non-Fiat Anonymous Digital Payment Method’s (N-FAD) value and investigates how the use of N-FAD’s could theoretically affect monetary policy on fiat currency. The investigation illuminates a unique characteristic of money that is not widely discussed in the economic literature, which distinguishes commonly accepted methods of payment from N-FAD’s. Using a simple augmented quantity equation-type model, we are also able to construct a rough estimate of the amount of goods and services purchased with bitcoin in the U.S.
