Blockchain was one of the most frequently mentioned themes in Twitter discussions about key disruptive technologies during Q1 2018, according to GlobalData.

The company focused on the top 100 Influencers with an interest in this area and an active presence on Twitter. It found that AI was way ahead of other disruptive technologies with more than one-fourth share of overall discussions, followed by Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain and augmented reality. Robotics and analytics also featured prominently.

The themes under the spotlight differed across the globe, with AI taking centre stage in the US, the UK, China, India, Spain, Russia, Japan, Brazil and Australia. Blockchain was all the rage in Germany, and IoT in Canada, Italy and Ireland. The US accounted for a quarter of all discussions about disruptive technologies, followed by China and Canada at 13% and 11% respectively.
