THETA partners with WPT to launch 24/7 live poker channel

Theta Labs has announced a new global distribution deal with World Poker Tour to launch an ‘always-on’, 24/7 poker live channel on Theta.tv, a blockchain-based video network.

Users of the platform will be able to instantly access World Poker Tour seasons eight to 16 as well as the King of the Club Season and many more.

When live poker returns to normal once the impact of coronavirus subsides Theta.tv will also broadcast live poker events and tournaments held at the HyperX Esports Arena in Las Vegas.

The difference between Theta.tv and other popular streaming services like Twitch and YouTube is that viewers can earn cryptocurrency in the form of the TFUEL token as a reward for sharing bandwidth while viewing content.

“Theta Labs and WPT are innovators in our respective industries and this global partnership will provide our users with a new, ground-breaking way to watch the best televised poker product in the world, all powered by our peer-to-peer Theta blockchain technology,” said Mitch Liu, Co-founder and CEO of Theta Labs. “We’re looking forward to deeper integration of the Theta Network within WPT.”

Adam Pliska, CEO of the World Poker Tour, revealed his excitement at the partnership as well as the prospect of utilising blockchain technology.

“The World Poker Tour is excited to be featured on THETA.tv powered by the Blockchain, an innovator in the fast-growing video streaming space.” He said.

“As THETA.tv and the Theta Network grows in size, we look forward to offering additional assets and programming on the platform in the upcoming future.”

With WPT’s live events in 2020 being cancelled they are now launching an online series to be played exclusively on partypoker, with tournaments running from May 10 to May 26.

The entire series on partypoker will offer $15 million in guarantees. The largest tournament will be the WPT Online Championship, which will be $3,200 to enter with a $5 million guarantee.
