Three Litecoin subreddits you should start following

Reddit, the social news aggregation and discussion website, is building a name for itself as one of the most useful websites for cryptocurrency supporters to share information with one another.

The site, dubbed “the front page of the internet”, is home to an array of cryptocurrency communities which enable newcomers, experienced traders, and miners to find out the latest market news, get trading tips, and receive guidance from their peers.

It’s particularly useful if you’re interested in coins other than Bitcoin. The “gold” coin is the primary focus of thousands of news articles and how-to guides, whereas credible information on Bitcoin alternatives is usually few and far between.

Litecoin, Bitcoin’s silver counterpart, doesn’t get nearly as much attention as Bitcoin, despite being one of the most popular digital currencies out there. On Reddit, however, it’s possible to find several forums devoted to all things Litecoin.

We’ve listed three of the most popular Litecoin subreddits below, but if you’re new to Reddit, you’ll first need to get to grips with how it works.

Reddit 101

The idea behind Reddit is to let the online community decide what is newsworthy by allowing them to post their own links and information. Users vote on these posts, and the ones with the most votes rise to the top.

To use Reddit, you’ll first need to open an account. You can then start following the subreddits that interest you.

Subreddits are like individual forums devoted to one particular topic. All subreddit names begin with a lowercase “r” followed by a slash, then the name of the subreddit. Each subreddit is hosted by a moderator and has its own rules regarding posts. Once you’ve found a subreddit you like, click “join” and posts from that subreddit will appear on your Reddit homepage.

Three Litecoin-focused subreddits you might want to follow are:

/r/Litecoin

With 202,509 subscribers, this is the place to be for anyone with an interest in Litecoin. This subreddit discusses all things Litecoin – from recent news and pricing through to events, troubleshooting, and general user queries. There’s a useful section with links to Litecoin websites, wallets, merchandise, and community resources. There is even a video explaining what Litecoin is, making it a useful subreddit for beginners.

/r/LitecoinMarkets

For anything price-related that isn’t a news article, this is the subreddit to check out. With 37,751 subscribers, it’s a price discussion solely for the scrypt-based, open source, peer-to-peer digital currency. Each day there is a “daily discussion” in which thread topics include a general chat about the day’s events, technical analysis, and trading ideas and strategies. There are daily links to price-related news stories.

/r/LitecoinMining

If you’re a Litecoin miner, head over to this subreddit, which is home to mining-related posts from its 14,824 subscribers. For newcomers, there are useful links to help you get started mining Litecoin. Users have posted a large array of mining-related questions, so if you’re struggling with anything, you’ll probably find the answer here.

What’s next?

Once you’ve started following subreddits, you’ll see them listed on your Reddit homepage. Click on the name and you’ll go through to that forum’s page. If you see a particular post you like, you can click the up arrow – a process called “upvoting”. On the other hand, you can click the down arrow against posts you don’t appreciate – this is called “downvoting”.

As well as reading subreddits, you can join in Litecoin discussions by posting and commenting. You can share links, post videos, and post images. Make sure you read the community’s posting rules first though. In general, forums don’t like people who self-promote or who post a huge number of links in quick succession.

It’s also possible to create a “multireddit”, which is a group of several different subreddits on a particular topic. This makes it easier to browse posts. You could, for example, add all three Litecoin subreddits mentioned in this article to a multireddit.

In addition to the three most popular Litecoin subreddits mentioned here, other ones to check out include r/LitecoinTraders, which has 1,770 followers, and r/litecoinforbeginners, which has 781 followers.
