Ohio congressman Warren Davidson has proposed ‘WallCoin’ as a crowdfunding solution to President Donald Trump’s controversial proposed wall on the US-Mexico border.
During an interview with NPR, the Republican congressman revealed how a private funding program where “the American people, or whomever should choose to donate,” would be able to fund the wall’s construction.
He added: “You could do it with sort of like a crowdfunding site or you could do a blockchain and you could have WallCoins, but you could raise the money, and frankly if we get it right at the Treasury you could even pay with Mexican pesos.”
Davidson did admit that funding would not be able to cover a wall across the entire border, asserting that some areas would be reinforced with a metal fence.
“There are areas that you would want to secure with a wall, and if you look at the areas where you have secured them with walls, $5 billion isn’t going to build a wall like the Great Wall of China – this is going to build secure fences,” he said.
Davidson is a prominent supporter of cryptocurrency. The 48-year-old held a round-table discussion with 80 representatives to discuss potential legislation for ICOs.
