Vitalik Buterin nabs University of Basel honorary doctorate

The creator of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Basel.

This is in recognition of his contribution to promoting decentralisation and equal rights of participation in the digital space, as well as for his achievements in relation to cryptocurrencies, smart contracts and institutional design.

Prof. Aleksander Berentsen, Dean of the Business Faculty, said: “Vitalik’s blockchain innovations are game changing. He has blazed a trail for science and industry to follow and work together.”

“I’m honoured to have received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel, the oldest University of Switzerland. Switzerland is well known for its innovative blockchain research,” Buterin commented.
