The Lightning torch is about to make its final stop before it ends up at Bitcoin Venezuela. After its last few hops via Jonha Richman and eToro market analyst Mati Greenspan, many are speculating about who will carry the torch for the 291st and last leg of the Lightning Network experiment.
The likes of Elon Musk, Joe Rogan, and possibly even Pewdiepie are in the running to receive the chain worth around $250. The chain has seen over seven BTC worth of transaction volume take place over 290 hops on the Lightning Network since the start of the year.
The experiment, commonly dubbed as #LNTrustchain, started on January 19 when tippin.me user Hodlonaut started passing the torch user to user, each one adding 10,000 satoshis to the initial amount of 100,000 satoshis.
The initiative was started in order to spread awareness of the Layer-2 Lightning Network technology, widely seen as the future of Bitcoin as it improves scalability and allows for instantly verifiable Bitcoin payments.
Coin Rivet recently brought you the story of Square and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey participating in the ongoing Lightning torch chain experiment.
The torch is now in its final stages and was down to three remaining spots when advisor and investor Jonha Richman passed it on to eToro senior analyst Mati Greenspan, who has chased the torch several times. The participants have now agreed to give the proceeds of the experiment to BTC Venezuela upon completion of the chain.
We will be watching what Mati decides to do next, but another possible option may be to even return the chain back to its founder Hodlonaut before the donation is given to charity.
