Square Crypto hires Bitcoin Core developer Matthew Corallo

Square Crypto has added Bitcoin Core developer and Blockstream co-founder Matthew Corallo to its growing team

Square Crypto – the cryptocurrency division of mobile payments company Square – has added Bitcoin Core developer and Blockstream co-founder Matthew Corallo to its ranks.

Square Crypto is the cryptocurrency-focused payments arm of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s payments company Square, which is best known for its popular Cash App.

Corallo – one of the most well-known Bitcoin developers – is a co-founder of blockchain company Blockstream and previously worked as an engineer for Chaincode Labs.

Announcing the acquisition on Twitter, Square Crypto wrote: “Big news: please welcome @TheBlueMatt to Square Crypto. Things are heating everybody get in here, let’s party.”

Minutes later, Corallo confirmed the news, tweeting: “So excited to be joining the Square Crypto team over the coming weeks. Experimenting with different models to accelerate Bitcoin OSS is awesome!

“Gonna miss the Chaincode Labs folks, but given they host anyone who works on Bitcoin OSS, I’ll probably be there every other day anyway.”

Back in March, Jack Dorsey announced that Square would be looking to hire three to four crypto engineers and one designer to work full-time on open source contributions to the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Corallo is now the second high-profile acquisition by Square Crypto. Earlier this year, Coin Rivet reported that the company had hired former Google director Steve Lee who will act as a team leader.
