Blockchain-based game Neon District has sold a non-fungible token (NFT) at auction for a remarkable 141 Ether.
Neon District is a sci-fi game developed by Blockade using the Unity game engine. It was initially going to be a trading card game but has since been repackaged into a role-playing game (RPG).
It is supported by the Loom Network which will store player items, with item trading set to take place on the Ethereum mainnet.
The player will control parties of in-game characters to battle and progress through a sci-fi storyline and earn in-game NFTs.
Neon District has since held its founders sale in which people could bid to buy the final ‘season zero’ boss ‘Baus’.
The owner of Baus will get the chance to work with Neon District regarding possible implementations for the character such as custom dialog through to the ability to use him in future player-versus-player (PVP) matches.
The winner of the auction has since been announced on Twitter as @Alex_Amsel – whose bid of 141 Ether was successful. Neon District’s Twitter post reads:
“Baus is SOLD to the highest bidder!! Congratulations to @Alex_Amsel who won the auction to own the Season Zero Baus at 141 ETH! We’re very excited to work with you to make the Baus ownership an experience unlike anything ever seen in gaming before.”
Ethereum was trading around the $160 mark at the time of purchase, meaning Alex Amsel’s successful bid clocked in at roughly $22,500.
While other NFTs may be listed for a higher price, this is one of the most expensive confirmed sales of an NFT to date.
