Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos, who played for over ten years for the Brazilian national team, has been announced as an ambassador for LUCKY.io, a new blockchain-based casino.
According to news outlet Games Magazine Brasil, the crypto casino offers users the chance to play in a smart contract-based betting platform using the company’s own LUCK token.
The trend of sports stars becoming marketing ambassadors for crypto projects is not new, with boxing champion Manny Pacquiao also promoting his own crypto token earlier this month.
The Brazilian star full-back was in Malta last week for the launch of the cryptocurrency and to promote the company.
The former world champion also visited children’s charity Puttinu Cares, donating $2,000 in partnership with LUCKY.io, which is headquartered in the country.
The new LUCK cryptocurrency can be used for betting on the LUCKY.io platform, ensuring “a fast and secure way to play with this blockchain-based online casino”.
Blockchain has been making a number of strides into the sporting space recently, with La Liga football club Atletico Madrid becoming the latest team to secure a partnership with Socios.com, a blockchain-based platform that gives supporters voting rights.
Socios will launch the Official Fan Token this autumn through a Fan Token Offering (FTO). The value of the digital asset has been set at two euros. Owners will be able to participate in polls conducted via the Socios mobile app.
Moreover, Fan Token owners get access to exclusive games and rewards through the app as well. Fans also receive incentives for time spent on the Socios app. According to the Chiliz web page:
“The more fans interact with the club through the app, the more rewards they can earn, competing for once-in-a-lifetime experiences and gaining access to exclusive merchandise, games, and leaderboards.”
Coin Rivet also reported earlier this year that Portuguese football club Benfica has started accepting cryptocurrency payments in the official club store thanks to a partnership with UTRUST, a crypto and fiat payments gateway.
UTRUST allows customers to pay with their favourite cryptocurrency and then immediately converts it to fiat, which means suppliers can get paid in full in US dollars, euros, GBP, and other fiat-based currencies.
The trend clearly shows influencers and companies in many different industries are looking into cryptocurrency as a way to raise funds and give fans a better, easier, and faster way to directly interact with the club. By promoting cryptocurrencies, clubs and sports stars are bringing additional value to the space.
