NFTs of characters and symbols from the latest installment of The Matrix franchise will be up for grabs after a partnership between Lotte Cinema, Warner Bros, and NFT start-up W.CRAFT.
‘The Matrix Resurrections’ – the fourth movie in the hugely successful science-fiction franchise – will be released later this month and, in celebration, Warner Bros announced the sale of 100,000 Matrix-themed avatar NFTs.
Despite the reservations of Keanu Reeves – the face of the franchise – on the concept of NFTs, Warner Bros could potentially earn $5 million through their sale.
In collaboration with the famous studio and W.CRAFT, Lotte Cinema – one of South Korea’s largest movie chains – will gift these NFTs to the first 30,000 customers who reserve their tickets.
The winners will be given ‘secret codes’ which can be exchanged for the NFTs on the W.CRAFT website.
With the inaugural Matrix Revolutions movie opening in 1999, the franchise has spanned over two decades, and the introduction of NFTs in its promotion could bring a new generation of viewers to the movies.
The world continues to adapt and evolve and it seems the film industry is doing just that with its acceptance and usage of NFTs in its promotion.
The independent film industry in particular has flocked to the NFT space with the film Zero Contact, starring Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins, becoming the first movie to be released via Vuele, an NFT platform.
