Has Brave’s success prompted Amazon to put advertising on the blockchain?

The Brave browser has seen tremendous growth over the past month, with the number of verified publishers rising by more than 900%

E-commerce giant Amazon has posted a job listing for a senior software engineer to join its “advertising fintech team focused on a blockchain ledger”.

The listing was posted on LinkedIn and suggests that Amazon is looking to pivot its advertising model towards one that utilises blockchain technology.

Companies like Brave have previously incorporated advertising models on the blockchain, with users being incentivised to watch catered ads in order to earn Brave’s BAT token.

According to data from BATGrowth, the amount of verified publishers on Brave’s Rewards program has grown by more than 900% in 12 months, reiterating a shift in consumer advertising trends.

Amazon’s job announcement, which has an estimated wage packet of $110,000 per annum, requires applicants to have a bachelor’s degree in computer science and eight or more years of experience in software development.

The job post also states: “This is an opportunity to define a technology architectural direction of a greenfield area for Amazon’s advertising business using blockchain technology.”

This is not Amazon’s first leap into blockchain technology. The company built the Quantum Ledger Database (QLDB) in November last year alongside the Amazon Managed Blockchain at the re:Invent conference.
