Sotheby’s unveils NFT charity auction to support front line healthcare workers

Auction house Sotheby’s has unveiled an NFT charity auction to support front line healthcare workers.

The “Gifted: The 140 Collection” draws its inspiration from Twitter, when in June this year, the social media giant tweeted “140 free NFTs for 140 of you, besties” – creating the original ‘140 Collection’ of Twitter NFTs.

Much like the original collection, ‘Gifted’ features seven unique NFTs in editions of 20 – and has been dubbed by Sotheby’s as “the biggest NFT charity auction ever”.

The collection was formed by seven of those lucky strangers that randomly received one of the 140 exclusive NFTs who have united to auction a full set of seven NFTs – with the proceeds will be donated to Sostento, an organisation that gives “vital support to frontline public health workers”.

‘Gifted’ features some of the most popular tropes on Twitter, including the ‘Reply Guy’, tributes to the original 140 character limit and logo alongside the ‘First Born’ NFT which features the first-ever tweet on the platform sent by Jack Dorsey, the creator of Twitter.

The auction starts at 5pm GMT and runs until November 30 on ‘Sotheby’s Metaverse’, which saw record-breaking sales for Bored Ape Yacht Club and ‘RarePepe‘ NFTs during its first iteration – the ‘Natively Digital 1.2‘ collection.

Sotheby’s also recently hosted two ‘Banksy’ pieces, which were the first to be sold in Ethereum at auction.
