Pepsi becomes latest brand to enter the NFT space with ‘Mic Drop’ collection

Pepsi has become the latest participant in the burgeoning non-fungible token space after unveiling its landmark NFT collection – the “Pepsi Mic Drop genesis NFT collection”.

The collection, which is said to be “anchored in the brand’s roots in music”, features 1,893 unique ‘generative’ NFTs that will be launched on the Ethereum blockchain on Friday December 10.

In fitting with the musical theme, the collection will feature many variations of a microphone inspired by iconic Pepsi flavours and an array of “exclusive generative traits” that pay homage to the brand’s “storied history in music and suite of Pepsi flavours”.

The landmark collection from Pepsi was designed by and created with VaynerNFT – an NFT consultancy that helps brands optimise brand development and build long-term NFT projects. VaynerNFT previously partnered with  Budweiser to help extend the “Budweiser community into the Metaverse”.

To keep in line with Pepsi’s “thought leadership in emerging marketing practices”, it is implementing a ‘carbon offset program’ to ensure a net carbon footprint of zero during the launch.

Additionally, to ensure an “equitable experience” and more manageable gas fees for minters, Pepsi has implemented a waitlist to ensure fair participation in the collection.

The waitlist opens Friday December 10 at 12pm EST, with approved users able to mint two days later on Tuesday, December 14 at 12.30pm EST.

The NFTs will then be able to buy, sell and trade on the users’ marketplace of choice. Currently, the collection is only available for US residents due to “tax purposes”.

“Pepsi has always been a brand with a strong heritage in music and pop culture, so it’s only fitting for us to bring that legacy into the new world of NFTs with a ‘mic drop’ of epic proportions,” said Todd Kaplan, Pepsi’s Vice President of Marketing.

“We created the Pepsi Mic Drop genesis NFT collection for our fans, putting their interests and needs at the forefront by ensuring the NFTs are all free of charge and presented equitably as an inclusive and accessible opportunity for anyone to experience the exciting world of NFTs.”
