Online sports betting giant BetOnline entered the world of NFTs yesterday following its purchase of a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT for $370k.
The online betting platform, which offers sports markets and casino gaming, bought Bored Ape Yacht Club #320 for 120 ETH earlier this month ahead of this weekend’s Super Bowl.
BetOnline’s Bored Ape acquisition marks the beginning of a “long-term vision for the Web3 world” and the “strengthening of corporate sponsorships and promotions” according to the platform.
“We saw this as an extremely exciting opportunity to join one of the world’s most desirable NFT communities,” said BetOnline CEO Eddie Robbins III.
“NFTs are a new vertical for us, but we’re just as bullish on this global movement as we are on the crypto space. We’re just getting started with non-fungible tokens, but we have big plans for this burgeoning industry.”
BetOnline now joins the ever-expanding community of Bored Ape members, which includes notable names such as Justin Bieber, Mark Cuban, Paris Hilton and Jimmy Fallon.
It’s also speculated that Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre and Eminem – who all own BAYC NFTs – could feature their apes in some way during the Super Bowl halftime show, where all three will be performing.
In addition, BetOnline has opened markets for bets – which can be made in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum – on whether a Bored Ape will or won’t appear on stage during the halftime show.
Ahead of Super Bowl XVI, BetOnline is also giving away $1,000 of Bitcoin for every point scored via a raffle, alongside awarding one Bitcoin to anyone that correctly predicts the winner of the game and the exact final score.
